Twin boys turn 4 today!

So, what's better than having your party at the movie theater and watching Toy Story 3 with all your friends?

Perhaps, a cake to match!?!

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by their mom who loved the idea of those cupcake sheet cakes...and sent a picture of what she was thinking:

(I'm not sure who to site for the picture...I think Mom scanned it from a magazine clipping. Sorry!)

Well, I of course had to step it up a notch with some cuteness and personalization! Here is what I came up with:

This was 3 dozen cupcakes- flavors include Chocolate Chip Cookie, Confetti and Dark Chocolate Fudge with Vanilla Buttercream. Half the cake was dedicated to Buzz and the other to Woody...all details and the boys' initials were done in my hand made Marshmallow Fondant. Mom wanted to include the toys (which will be placed on the cake when it arrives at the site), so the boys would have a little souvenir!

I must admit, I have not seen even one of these movies (I only have a 16 month old) so I had to do some research on this project! Now, I think I'm going to have to sit down and watch them...all the characters just seem so cute!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS!

"Life Is Good!"

This cake, themed after the "Life Is Good" apparel company, was to help celebrate something many may take for granted: A happy, healthy and (most importantly) sober life!

It has been a year since my client gave up his addiction...what a great reason to gather with friends and family!

Congratulations to you! Stay strong...and thank you for asking me to be apart of such a wonderful day!

Mother-To-Be Shower Cake

This weekend, I was pleased to be apart of a fun and funky baby shower! I was contacted by the host just a few weeks ago and lucky for me, I was available!

After going over ideas through many emails and phone calls, I came up with a plan. My client loved Pink Cake Box's "Pregnant Lady Cakes," so that was my inspiration...just with a little twist!

The flavor was Vanilla Bean Cake with a Fresh Strawberry Preserve Filling and my Vanilla Buttercream. I went with the shower's color scheme of lavender, lime and brown (because the parents are leaving the gender a mystery) and all accents were done in my homemade Marshmallow Fondant.

This custom mommy-to-be was hand made out of my Marshmallow Fondant. This was my first stab at a person figure and it was so much fun to make! I may have a new favorite decorating technique! :)

This cake was just a joy to create! Congratulations to the soon-to-be parents...and thank you for letting me be apart of your celebrations!

Cookie Dough Cupcakes

Good Morning!

I woke up today with a mission...bake, taste and review Cupcake Project's recently posted recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes!

These are Brown Butter Cakes with a Cookie Dough filling and topped
with Cookie Dough Frosting!

How fabulous, right!?!

So, do YOU want the recipe? Just click HERE.

My notes:
  1. I went with All Purpose Flour because one- I didn't need an entire dozen and two- that's what I had on hand...just beware, when you use All Purpose Flour, you'll end up with enough batter for only 6 cupcakes. If you want a full dozen, either double the recipe and use All Purpose or go out and buy some Self Rising.
  2. WATCH your butter!!! :) It brown's up quick!!
  3. I didn't measure out my chocolate chips for the cake batter- just poured until it looked like enough- but, for the measure'ers out there: it was probably about 3/4 cup.
  4. I didn't add the chocolate chips to my cookie dough right away either...I set a little dough off to the side in a clean bowl (for the frosting) before adding the chips.
  5. The cookie dough recipe I used was EGGLESS, so no worries on the sanitation end of things there! Want that recipe? Click HERE.
  6. I added about 2 heaping spoonfuls of my Vanilla Buttercream to the Cookie Dough Frosting...I wanted a "frosting" rather than an "icing." It turned out super smooth and tasty!
Are you curious yet about my thoughts?

I think these cupcakes could possibly be THE BEST, YUMMIEST, MOST DELICIOUS thing I have ever (in my very short 25 years) placed upon my taste buds! I mean, WOW!!

The cake is moist and sweet from the melted chocolate chips...the cookie dough reminds me of when I was a kid and would pick out all the little brown speckled balls from my ice cream...and the frosting tastes like smooth, rich cookies!!

Does it get any better than that? I think not!
Enjoy and Happy Baking!

Amy's Wedding

Tonight, I was part of such a fun beach themed wedding reception...located at non other than Bubba's Love Shak on the Marshwalk in Murrell's Inlet, SC!

My bride, Amy, contacted me just a few weeks ago wanting colorful cupcakes for her guests. Luckily, I was available and we got to work on the theme and design! Here is what I came up with:

CupcakesFlavors included Strawberry Shortcake, Cotton Candy, Key Lime and Cookies & Cream.

Topper CakeThis was my Charleston Style Pound Cake with a Vanilla Cream Cheese and Fresh Strawberry Preserve filling. It was iced in Vanilla Buttercream with a colorful coral design...raw sugar "sand" and white chocolate seashells added the perfect finishing touch!

Well, my husband did not get a cake this year...I had a wedding that kept me busy, busy all weekend long, but he did get something made from the heart:

Surprise Birthday Cakes

Today was a fun day filled with lots of sweetness and surprises! My sister and brother in law have birthdays within a week of each other...and the family got together tonight for a joint surprise birthday dinner. I, of course, was in charge of the cakes:

First-
Jessica's Birthday Present Cake
This was a square Almond Cake filled with Toasted Coconut Dark Chocolate Ganache and frosted in Vanilla Buttercream. The bow is made of Marshmallow Fondant. Teal and hot pink are her favorite colors.

Next-
Clay's Octagon Cake
This was Butter Cake with a Caramel Filling and frosted in Vanilla Buttercream and Marshmallow Fondant. He is a huge UFC fan, so I carved a fighting ring out of his cake...he got a kick out of "Another Year Closer To Tapout"

Review of Banana-Chocolate Chip Cookies

I so much love to cook!

I have been reading recent posts in "blogland" and have noticed a trend in the last few months:

Banana-Chocolate Chip Cookies

After reading over quite a few different variations, I decided I NEEDED to try Martha Stewart's recipe. This is what marthastewart.com says about these fab treats-

In one batch of hearty cookies, find the flavors of two bakery classics: chocolate chip cookies and banana bread. Chopped walnuts and rolled oats add texture and more layers of taste.

So, are you ready for the recipe? : ) It is as follows:

Makes about 3 dozen

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mashed ripe banana (about 1 large)
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped into 1/4-inch chunks
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts (about 2 ounces), toasted

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Whisk together flours, salt, and baking soda in a small bowl; set aside. Put butter and sugars into the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment; mix on medium speed until pale and fluffy. Reduce speed to low. Add egg and vanilla; mix until combined. Mix in banana. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined. Stir in oats, chocolate chunks, and walnuts.
  • Using a 1 1/2-inch ice cream scoop, drop dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, spacing about 2 inches apart. Bake cookies, rotating sheets halfway through, until golden brown and just set, 12 to 13 minutes. Let cool on sheets on wire racks 5 minutes. Transfer cookies to wire racks; let cool completely. Cookies can be stored in airtight containers up to 2 days. (Recipe and Picture courtesy of marthastewart.com.)

These cookies are very moist and the sweet hint of banana in the back ground pairs wonderfully with toasty walnuts and chocolate! I am a huge fan of banana bread, so these were an instant hit in my book! Happy Baking!
