Baby Shower Cake Pops

IT'S A GIRL
A close friend of mine hosted a baby shower over the weekend in Columbia. The mother-to-be is expecting a baby girl named Lainy, so the host came up with the idea of incorporating an "L" with a poka dot theme. After searching the internet for the perfect inspiration, she sent me a picture from the popular beau-coup.com. (They actually use brownies for their pops.) Well, this is what I came up with...

These pops are vanilla bean cake with vanilla buttercream covered in tinted pink white chocolate and decorated in green poka dots and "L's." As you can see, they were used on the table scape...adorable!

3rd Place

Whhhooooo Hoooooooo!!!!
There is a local news station in Myrtle Beach that has a contest for area businesses every year. The "Best of the Grand Strand" is a people's choice poll that let's people elect and then vote on their favorites...from restaurants to hotels and even attractions. Well, thanks to a sweet bride of mine, I was nominated and is very proud to announce that I placed bronze in the "Best Cake" category! Out of many cake creators on the Strand, placing in the Top 3 is a great honor! Thank you to all who voted...I appreciate my clients more than anything because without you, I wouldn't be able to do the job I love so dearly!

Black and Ivory Wedding

Today, a very sweet couple tied the knot in a beautiful wedding decorated in black, ivory and the slightest hint of gold. This is the cake I created to compliment their theme:

They opted for a simple cake, as well as design. My Charleston Style Pound Cake was covered in Ivory Buttercream with a Black Fondant Bow sitting on top. Black ribbon and the couple's initial in Buttercream added the perfect touch and really made the black on ivory pop!

As each guest took their seat, they were greeted by an adorable Cake Pop Favor that matched the theme, as seen in the lower right corner in the picture above

The cake and favors turned out so elegant...I fell in love with both of them! This was a simple design that transformed the banquet hall into a complete reception!

Latest Creations

With Valentine's looming, I've been mostly blogging about that and have neglected to show you the latest cakes and cupcakes I've had so much fun creating!

Zebra Print
This cake was for a close friend's sister, who is a spunky lil' thang! She's a hair stylist by day and a bartender by night, so what better way to celebrate her birthday than with a funky animal print design!! I used Rich Butter Cake and my Vanilla Buttercream for this creation with Marshmallow Fondant zebra stripes and bow.

"That was such an awesome cake!! Lindsey LOVED it!! [Everyone] wanted to know where it came from. Thank you so much!" A.S. Florence, SC

Carnival Fun
The next cake was for Charleigh's 6th birthday party. I was able to work again with the fabulous Tyler Harnish from Ta Da Parties by Ty on this carnival themed event. The birthday girl wanted her own small cake and Tyler thought it would be great if I could incorporate the big tent somehow. So, I turned the cake INTO the big tent. I used Dark Chocolate Cake and my Vanilla Buttercream on the tent- the stripes and banner are Marshmallow Fondant. Three dozen cupcakes also were in attendance...Vanilla Bean Cake topped with Vanilla Buttercream and colorful nonpareils. Handmade Marshmallow Fondant popcorn and "Admit One" tickets adorned the cakes as well. (I even dusted each popcorn kernel with a little gold shimmer dust to give the effect of melted butter.)

Wedding Cake Tasting
A good friend from high school is getting married April 17th and I recently had a tasting with her. The bride-to-be wanted to try the Charleston Style Pound Cake with Vanilla Buttercream and 4 fillings: Vanilla Cream Cheese, Lemon Curd, Fresh Strawberry Preserve and Mocha. We also had a chance to sit down and talk about which elements will make her perfect wedding cake...it had been so long since I've seen her, so it was wonderful catching up! I'm really looking forward to this cake- it's going to be fun and unique, just like her!

These last few cakes have been a blast! I love being able to work with such an array of personalities and original ideas. What better job is there?

Kylie's Princess Castle

The Very First Cake of 2010! Princess themed parties are so much fun and I was luckily able to be apart of one this past weekend! The birthday girl was turning 3 and all the mom told me was that the cake needed to be chocolate and match her pink decor. (I love having free reign every once and a while- it get's my creative juices flowing!) I decided to go with a 6 and 10 inch square, cover it in white buttercream and decorate with pink sugar crystals and flowers. I had a little help from a castle cake kit which included the towers and topper.

I love how it turned out! And, best of all, the princess of the day loved it as well! I'd say the year started off right!
